$2 Hostess Gifts for the Thanksgiving Chef in Your Life

Thanksgiving is almost here! As fast as this month seems to be going, there is still so much to look forward to.  Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year. It is an extra long weekend off from work that is full of food, family, and football. Thanksgiving is also so much less pressure than Christmas — and the mashed potatoes and pecan pie never hurt.

There is so much to be thankful for this year.  I am so lucky to be able to see both my family and my boyfriend’s family on Thanksgiving.  I never take it for granted how fortunate I am to be able to fit in so much time with the people that mean the most to me at the holidays.

This year we are visiting my family in the early afternoon and his family in the late afternoon, which means double the food but also double the need for hostess gifts.  While we are bringing some Philly style appetizers to both dinners, there is always that one hostess that deserves something non-edible to enjoy.

I picked up these wooden salad spoons at The Dollar Tree!  The only thing better than a handmade gift for your host, is a gift that costs you $2.00! (I am thankful for YOU, Dollar Tree).

After outlining the Thanksgiving themed words in pencil, I used this wood burning tool to burn the letters into the handle.  This tool is far less scary than it sounds.  It is easy to control, comes with various tips, and has a small learning curve (after a little practice on some scrap wood).

I found that tracing and then retracing repeatedly with the burning tool works best.  Holding the tip down to get more depth ultimately leaves the words legible but more stippled than fluid.  Try your best to write as if it were a pen, and retrace your lines for greater definition and depth — this gives it a handmade ‘branded’ feel I was looking for.

This tool can be used for so many projects – it is a great value and ups the ante on your DIY opportunities.  See below for some other amazing ideas and stayed tuned for more applications from yours truly.

*This is not a sponsored post – I just love a good tool at a great value!
